Apple iPhone: “Official” Geocaching App COMING SOON!

“The app has been submitted to the App Store, will cost US$9.99, and will initially allow iPhone owners to find caches near them, look up trackable items like travel bugs, save cache information for use when outside of phone network range, and limit results to save bandwidth.”

So, instead of posting each single find, I’m going to start doing a weekly post as we are totally addicted to GeoCaching and are doing multiple caches on some days.

Sept 16th:

Sept 17:

I’m at a meeting in Burlington, and somebody asks me about Geocaching. I tried to explain it the best I could without sounding like a total nerd. By the end of the conversation, the room was split thinking it was neat or totally nerdy. I decided that when I was to leave the office, I would show them what geocaching was about via video stream (didn’t really help me shake the nerdy rep)

A quick Geocache on the way home from school. We’ve driven right past this location everyday for the past 2 years. Great hiding spot. Photos

In the cache, we found our first GeoCoin. The coin is from Ingersoll ON and we plan on taking it to BC in October.

GeoCaching extravaganza! We are trying to get as much caching in before it gets too cold. Great hiding spots on some of these Caches. I thought that is was great that we had to lift the utility box on a lamppost to find a microcache.

I am finding that geocaching is opening my eyes to the beautiful city that London, Ontario is.

Seems like this entire blog has been hijacked by GeoCaching posts, but I am trying to get as many as I can before the weather turns.

In Burlington today for a business meeting. After the meeting I took a couple of minutes to “Cache and Dash” before heading home. I picked 2 spots close to my location, both were easy to find.

Cache 1: GC1A3YC

Great location in a tree that seemed to be the last standing due to construction of a new outlet mall. Here is where I found O.P. Otter, my first Travel Bug. He has been very busy, check out his progress here. I plan on sending him on his way this weekend. More pics of GC1A3YC

Located in the Burlington pioneer cemetery, near the 403. This was a tricky cache.

Tonight I took the kids out for a quick GeoCache trip before bed. It was our first time in the Fox Hollow ravine by our house. I was amazed that the trail that was recently built. Brodie had a great time despite taking a couple of falls getting the second cache.

A Quick find on our way up to Long Point Beach. Cache was located underneath the Long Point bird lookout.

Nothing to take, but we left a 2005 Canadian quarter.

Double Find today, first we visited StoryBook Gardens and then decided to find our third cache. This one was very difficult but in the end we braved the bug bites and got the prize.

Our second cache of the day (fourth overall) was located near Elsie Perrin estate. We ventured off the beaten path but ended up going around and around. I don’t think that an iPhone is the greatest geocaching tool. But in the end we found the cache in a great hiding spot. We were bummed out because this was supposed to have a GeoCoin inside. I guess that somebody beat us to it.

Last night we took the kids on our first GeoCaching trip. After an unsuccessful first attempt at our first cache, we moved onto our backup choice. After 30 mins of walking around, we found it! Great fun.
